Undertaking Due Diligence on an Indonesian ESCO

An investment fund looking to make a strategic move into energy efficiency needed commercial due diligence on a proposed investment into an Energy Service Company.

The project

An early stage clean energy fund in South East Asia selected ep group to undertake commercial due diligence on its first proposed investment into energy efficiency.

Despite operating entirely remotely during Covid we were able to thoroughly review the company’s operating systems and contracts and provide a clear view back to the clients.  In this particular case, no investment was made, but using its global network we were able to introduce potential partners.  We also advised on how to make the ESCO more investable.

01

Desired outcomes

Clarity over the operation of the business in order to make an investment decision while operating remotely during Covid in a new market.

02

How did we help?

We used our extensive experience in starting and growing ESCOs and the nature of energy service companies to: undertake a commercial review of the company’s energy performance contracts; review the organisational structure and staffing; analyse and make suggestions for improving the project evaluation processes.

03

What are the benefits?

Being able to access the combined experience of the ep asset management team, who between them have started and run major energy service companies up to £600m revenues, developed and built > £1 bn of energy infrastructure, and pioneered new contract structures.
