The Project

ep projects, working closely with the Catapult and Fawley Waterside have visioned a pathfinder building to accommodate academic, educational, 3rd sector, digital, marine, technology/science, CLT assemblage, private sector, 5G and Catapult facilities.

01

Desired Outcomes

The design of an inspirational base for innovative organisations and leaders to gather and work collaboratively together in a Net Zero Carbon, active and sector leading, positive impact way. Integration of natural, locally sourced and sustainable materials.

02

The Challenge?

Gaining funding and support for an economic / employment led facility with sufficient flexibility to accommodate all manner of varied scale companies and business types.

03

How did we Help?

ep projects developed a living building / CLT / timber inspired solution and 3D model for integration into the wider Fawley Waterside proposals along with visioning the client and Catapult teams’ requirements.

04

What are the Benefits?

Creation of a building envelope as an energy generating, carbon positive building, providing wellbeing to its occupants as an inspiring workplace for all. Living walls and landscaped roof areas will further enhance the setting against the backdrop of the Solent.

The Site

01

CLT / Mass Timber Construction

With an aim to minimise or neutralise the need for concrete we are adopting a mass timber construction for the innovation building. Floor slabs of cross laminated timber (CLT) will allow substantial loading reduction and rapid speed of construction on site.

02

BIPV Envelope

Applied to all elevations as integral envelope elements, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) will be adopted to create a Net Zero Energy (all on-site generated) solution.

03

Locally Sourced Materials

Using Douglas Fir timber locally forested and milled, along with many other regional sourced materials we aim to minimise carbon impact throughout the entire procurement process.

04

Living Roof / Living Walls

Adopting native, local to the New Forest species of wildflowers and grasses, the roofscape will be enhanced with extensive environmentally rich planting. Native Ivy species will further enhance the ‘Green envelope’ applied to the elevations of the building.
