The European Commission and UNEP FI created EEFIG in 2013 to help bridge the energy efficiency financing gap.
ep group co-led the two year Derisking Project in 2016/17 alongside Cowi A/S and other partners. We are also part of the consortium in the current EEFIG 3 project and are contributing to several working groups, including leading WG1 on the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy and Tagging of Energy Efficiency loans.

Building capacity and providing tools to help grow the flow of investment into energy efficiency projects.
The challenge?
Building consensus amongst a diverse range of stakeholders from across Europe.
We helped the consultancy consortium develop the proposals for the Derisking Project and EEFIG 3. Within the Derisking Project we co-chaired meetings, liaised with stakeholders including many financial institutions, and were the principal authors of the Underwriting Toolkit which was introduced at an EEFIG meeting chaired by the EC and the UNEP FI at an EU Sustainable Energy Week in 2017.
We also contributed to all reporting. In EEFIG 3 we chaired the Working Group on the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy and Tagging which was the first working group in the new project and had to be delivered on a very tight deadline to meet the timeline of the Sustainable Finance Technical Expert Group.
This involved assembling the working group, managing the project, chairing meetings and reporting. We are also contributing to other working groups on; industry, [risk] and data collection.
What are the benefits?
The EEFIG Derisking projects produced two tools; the Derisking Energy Efficiency Platform (DEEP), a database of more than 10,000 energy efficiency projects across Europe, and the Underwriting Toolkit
